The Øresund Bridge opened in 2000 and since then thousands of cars and trains have crossed the strait between Denmark and Sweden. The bridge consists of both a bridge, a tunnel and the artificial island Peberholmen. Combined it adds up to a total length of 15.9 km. History. Plans for connecting Scania and Zealand with a bridge had been raised throughout the entire 20th century, and in 1991 a company was created to start the work.

The Oresund Bridge project involved building an underwater tunnel, an artificial island, an artificial peninsula, and a bridge. Eight kilometres long, this most elegant and slender looking construct is more of a bridge-tunnel. A train runs through it, in what,ost people feel is a dissapointingly short ride.
